Women in Sport – Knowing Where to Start:

Priming for Financial Success

Woman circle

If you do decide to move forward in the world of finance, there are some things you can do to start priming yourself for success.

Here is a list of a few things you can start doing now, even before you find that first job.

  • Start Studying and consider taking an additional course, like the IMC / CFA Level 1 or Level 2.
  • Begin looking at where opportunities lie and which direction feels like the best fit for you. Which sector of finance do you find most appealing.
  • Stay disciplined in keeping up with current global affairs and connecting the dots between world events and financial markets. (This can help you enormously when it comes time for interviews).

Moving Through Challenges

Deciding to enter the financial world is a big decision, one that for many women is wrought with challenge. Women can feel discouraged when looking around an office or taking a glance at who holds the top positions in the field, but they shouldn’t. For those women who decide to face that challenge head on, the opportunity to succeed and be a positive role model for the next generation of young women is huge.

There are more men in senior positions, but there are also many senior women who have risen through the ranks, who inspire others on a daily basis. It is important to find these women mentors and positive role models. Female athletes, maybe more than anyone else, know how to overcome challenges. They are well-versed in tackling tough situations and persevering.

This is exactly why financial industry leaders are looking to them in order to find a way to make lasting change for gender equality and diversity. Diversity brings a positive impact to the workplace and the added value of having different perspectives brings out the best in the business.
